New Service

New Service Sign Up

People wishing to apply for a new service should call or stop by our office or contact us to set up an appointment with Mr. Clay Becker, our Engineering Technician. Clay does the engineering for all new services. Clay will meet with you on site to look at your proposed service. There are several pieces of information he needs from you in order to give you the best possible advice on your new service. If you know this information before you meet with Clay, it will streamline the process and save time and money.

  1. Know where you want to build. Knowing where we need to get power to greatly affects how much it will cost to build the new power line. Also have an idea where your driveway will be located.
  2. From our point of metering, customers will be responsible for installing their secondary wire underground to their new structure. Wheatland REA provides service to the breaker at the meter can, beyond that point we are not responsible for the consumers wire. This also includes locating the wire from our meter can to your structure. A Wyoming State Fire Marshalls Wiring Permit is also required before service can be activated.
  3. Have an idea of what large usage items will be in your new structure; stove, air conditioning, heat, on demand water heaters, ect. This will determine the size of the service you need, as well as the rate at which you will be billed. You will see by our rate schedule Electric Thermal Storage heating is the lowest electric rate for residential services. If you are building a new home, check on this very efficient method of heating while you are getting your new service lined out.

If your new service requires the building of a new line, is the deed recorded at the county court house? Please obtain a copy of the deed for us; this assists us during the right-of-way and easement phase of your project.

Estimate Fees

There is a minimum estimate fee of $110.00 for most new services. Large projects require larger estimate fees. This fee must be paid prior to receiving your estimate for the proposed work. This fee is non-refundable, but will be applied to the cost of building your service, should you decide to build the proposed service. Please plan to pay this fee at your initial meeting.

All construction costs (as per your estimate) must be paid prior to the commencement of construction.

If you need temporary construction power, we have temporary service devices for lease. These units meet Wyoming electric code standards.
